Plastic is everywhere around us. These plastics pollute even our gorgeous coastlines. Mostly fishing nets, PET bottles, plastic bags, and other single-use plastic products.
Most of the time its not locally produced or used. Like nets used for fisheries are from international waters where unsustainable fisheries are practiced. The issue of plastics on our beaches are huge issue and a sustainable solution needs to be made.
The event was carried out by the passionate volunteers of North Huvadhu specially from the island of Gemanafushi lead by the inspiring young Fisherman, Zuvaan Masveriya, Hassan Sajin. The purpose of the event is to clean the coastlines of uninhabited islands of the atoll.
The event was successful as the volunteer's managed to collect more than 8 jumbo bags full of plastic waste.
The event was a partnership between local NGO's and business who works towards eliminating single use plastics.
